TURKANA VIA CHALBI DESERT

Day 01: Nairobi- Samburu.
0730hrs. Depart Nairobi for Samburu Game Reserve, on the way you will have a good view of the peak of Mt. Kenya if the weather is clear. You will also pass the countryside with coffee and tea plantations. At Nanyuki you will stop briefly for Lunch before proceeding to Samburu. In Samburu you will have dinner and spend an overnight at a Lodge or Camp.


Day 02: Samburu.
You will spend the whole Morning and afternoon in the park doing game drives. Samburu is home to rare drought animals that go for long periods of time without water. These include the reticulated giraffe, gravy’s zebra, the blue-sharked Somali Ostrich, gerenuk (or giraffe gazelle) and the Beisa Oryx. The vegetation here is desert rose, desiccated grass and acacia trees or bushes. The Samburu nomadic tribe who are distant cousins to the Maasai inhabits this area. Have dinner and spend an overnight at a Lodge or Camp.


Day 03: Samburu- Marsabit.
You will go for a morning game drive and return to the Lodge for breakfast. After breakfast depart for Marsabit as you pass the ‘singing wells’ of the Boran tribe fetching water in a long queue with chains singing in their mother tongue; they also bring their livestock to water at the same time. On arrival at Marsabit you will have late lunch at the camp and rest in the afternoon. Have dinner and spend an overnight at a Lodge or Camp.


Day 04: Marsabit- Kalacha. 
After breakfast go on a game drive in the nearby Marsabit National Park. You will have a stop at ‘Lake Paradise’ which is a natural water-hole. This park is essentially on oasis. Drive to Kalacha, a small settlement at the edge of Chalbi desert, picnic lunch en-route. Have dinner and spend an overnight at a Lodge or Camp.


Day 05: Kalacha - Lake Turkana.
After breakfast, depart Kalacha for ‘Loyangalani’ the common name for the south-eastern shore of Lake Turkana, crossing the Chalbi desert via North Horr. You will have Lunch on arrival. Rest of the afternoon at leisure for a well deserved rest, having crossed Chalbi. Have dinner and spend an overnight at a Lodge or Camp.


Day 06: Lake Turkana.
Day at leisure by the shores of Lake Turkana during which you can visit the El Molo tribesmen in their village at extra cost, the El Molo tribe are said to be the smallest tribe in Africa. Caution should be exercised near the lake as its waters are crocodile infested. Have dinner and spend an overnight at a Lodge or Camp.


Day 07: Lake Turkana – Maralal.

After breakfast depart Loyangalani for Maralal town, viewing the desert landscape and the various nomadic tribes that inhabit the northern part of Kenya as they graze their livestock which includes camels. Lunch will be served en-route. Have dinner and spend an overnight at a Lodge or Camp.


Day 08: Maralal- Nairobi.
After breakfast, depart Maralal for Nairobi via Thompson Falls. You will have lunch en-route. You will arrive at Nairobi in the early evening.
